St. Lawrence Market in the Fall

Fresh sylvas that smell like peaches and honey and a nice orange pumpkin that will make it's way into a soup or a pie this coming weekend. The weather has taken a decided turn to fall and I am loving the cozy scarfs and tea lattes.

City Market

Today I went to the farmers market outside Metro Hall. Apparently it's been happening every Thursday. I went on my lunch break and I got to see all the business people in their suits tasting watermelon and buying peaches. It was nice to see the financial district humanized in this way. There was live music and even though the rain was threatening, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. 

 

The market had bread and cheese and meat and fruits and veggies but the flowers definitely stole the show. I wonder how many offices in the surrounding area are benefiting from the lovely fall blooms this afternoon.

Outdoor Escape

So I got a little garden going on my fire escape. I bought some veggies; tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, green peppers, basil and rosemary. I also got some lavender because it's so pretty and smells so nice. I even split up some of my house plants so that i could put some more plants outside. 

There is a pesky racoon that is making things difficult by overturning several plants every night. I don't think that re-planting every morning will make for a prosperous harvest somehow.
I enjoyed planting everything and I like watering them everyday. I'm feeling a bit like a proud parent. I can't wait to post some pictures of my new vegetables soon!

I've decided to start this blog to share the things that inspire me and the things that make me happy with anyone who is interested in reading about it. Hopefully it will make you happy too.

My first goal is to start a little garden on my fire escape. Hopefully I'll be able to enjoy the sun, the plants, and maybe even some vegetables at the end of the summer, while I read a book on my little piece of the outdoors.
